ABOUT USThe Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF)

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation since the official inauguration by the Sports Authority as the 40th federation in September 2016 has strategically lived it’s mandate to improve development, increase participation, raise the profile of the sports, attract sponsorship and participate in international competitions.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation is affiliated to the Africa Armwrestling Federation (AFA) and the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) with development partnership with America, India, Canada and Belgium.

We at GAF through the support of corporate Ghana and direction of the Sports Authority have influenced the growth making it the Fastest Growing and Most Talkabout sport in Ghana apart from football.- Thanks to our sponsoring partners Kofikrom Pharmacy Ltd, T.T Brothers Ltd, Twellium Industries Ltd, Vodafone Cash etc.

Executive Board, Our Direction :

 
GAF has a carefully constituted board that gives policy direction, development agenda, advisory and gives financial support/advise to the federation. It’s made up of high-level personalities with sports management background, businessmen, corporate persons, brand ambassadors and marketing experts.

The success Story within the period:

Very challenging but a lot not limited to below has been achieved :

  • Ghana has produced Africa’s World Junior Referees in the person of Husseini Akuetteh Addy.
  • Ghana has unprecedented, 8 Senior Referees in Africa namely Husseini Akuetteh Addy, Nii Otoo Larkyn, Alberta Ampomah. Exward Asamoah, Godwin Sackey, Prince Affum and Richard Appiah Aboagye.
  • Formed the Athletes Brigade- a group for all registered Armwrestlers.
  • Coaches Chamber – A group for trained and certified coaches.
  • Referees Commission- Group for Certified Referees.
  • Winning 22 Medals at the 2017 Africa Armwrestling Championship in Lagos Nigeria, a record breaking feat by any federation at a single continental championship.
  • Won 88 unprecedented medals at the 2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship.
  • Won 18 medals and placed 3rd at the 2019 Africa Armwrestling Championship.
  • Inaugurated Regional Associations
  • Regional Demonstrations
  • Several Community Activations.
  • University engagement
  • Training of Coaches Etc.
  • 4 Nominations for 2017 SWAG AWARDS but won Discovery and Para Athlete of the Year awards.
  • Received 5 nominations for the 2018 SWAG Awards.
  • Participated in World Armwrestling Championships since 2017.

OUR MANDATE

Ghana was mandated by the Africa Armwrestling Federation in July 2017 to host the 2018 edition of the continental championships after beating Morocco to the bid. Ghana accepted the challenge working to deliver an event where Africa converged in Accra and the Championship was tagged the best on the continent ever.

We took the challenge because we wanted:

  • To encourage participation by Ghanaians and Africans.
  • Enhance local and technical development.
  • Prevent a situation where Ghana cannot travel to better the success chalked in Nigeria
  • Promote and popularize Armwrestling across the country.
  • Promote Tourism and affirm Ghana’s hospitality to Africa and the Wotld.
  • To attract corporate Ghana to invest in Armwrestling.

Our National Team – The Golden Arms

The Golden Arms is the most relevant and consistent national team in Ghana today, having won a total of 128 medals in 3yrs.

Media is a major tool in promoting products and brands. The leadership of the federation is made up of media and marketing professionals hence a solid relationship with Gh media.
